Talkin Tarn
 

Rowing, Sailing and Windsurfing are available at Talkin Tarn which lies at the foothills of the Pennines. It takes around 30 minutes to walk around the tarn. There is a tea room open most of the year.
The tarn itself is 65 acres, 42 feet deep. However Talkin Tarn Country Park covers 183 acres. The lake is fed by underwater springs and is very cold in places.
Locals will tell you that there is a small submerged town under the tarn.

The Lanes Shopping Centre & Carlile Town Centre
 

The Lanes Shopping centre is located in the centre of Carlisle. Carlisle is an award winning town centre, with a clean pedestrianised main street, it always looks pretty with beutiful hanging baskets and trees situated all around the centre.

Carlisle has 3 big departmnet stores and a wide range of high street shops all within a compact vicinity.

Parking is available in The Lanes Car park. Also available is a shop mobility scheme.

Newcastle - 1 Hour drive away

For those of you who like plently of choice when you are shopping, from small designer shops to big department stores, Newcastle has it all.

Eldon Square located in the centre of Newcastle boasts hundreds of shops.

The Metro Centre, located in Gateshead is a copmact out of town shopping centre with ample free parking. You can get the bus from here to Eldon square in the centre of town if you like.

Glasgow & Edinburgh - 1 Hour 30min drive away
 

Glasgow has numerous art galleries and a famous science centre which has a 360 degree revolving tower providing spectacular views of the city. There is something for everyone from the trendy Merchant City Area to the more laid-back Byres Road for a cosmopolitan selection of top quality restaurants.

Edinburgh has many historic buildings lined on cobbled streets leading to Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. You can begin to understand the history of Scotland and its people by visiting the Museum of Scotland. With the National Gallery, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Dean Gallery Edinburgh really is a haven for art lovers.

Swimming, Golf, Horse riding and Fishing

Carlisle Swimming baths has 3 swimming pools.

There are numerous golf courses close by.

There is one horse riding establishment within 2 miles of New Pallyards, and a further 2 within 6 miles.

Good fishing is available on the Esk, Eden, Lyne and Liddle. Esk and Eden are well known from their Trout and Salmon. New Mills Trout Farm 016977 2384.
